Surgery Story - Azia-lynn

 
The journey so far.....
 
January 23rd:

Our (not so) little Azia-lynn is born 1 week early (on her original due date!) 8lb 15oz and 21 inches.

January 24th: *Pediatrician hears a heart murmur*
January 26th: Cardiologist appt *Murmur diagnosed as a VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect - a hole in her heart)*
February 8th: Cardiologist appt. *VSD not affecting health or development*
March 2nd: Cardiologist appt. *Hole (VSD) is closing, surgery won't be necessary*
May 9th:

Pediatric Eye Dr. appt *There is no crossing of the eyes, it is an optical illusion*

June 6th:

Cardiologist appt *VSD is closed!*

June 7th: Neurosurgeon appt. *Official diagnosis: Metopic Craniosynostosis*
July 24th: CT Scan at BC Children's Hospital *No other anomalies*
July 11th: Plastic Surgeon appt. *Permission granted for surgery*
August 28th: 2nd Pediatric Eye Dr. *Confirms her vision is perfect!*
August 30th:

Neurosurgeon appt. *We're all set for surgery*

October 4th at 1pm: Preadmission (Anesthesia Consult) -*She is totally healthy and ready to go!*
October 9th CVR and FOA surgery- *She went in at 2:15pm and was finished just after 6pm. She is swollen but she is a little trooper!*
October 13th She is home - *She cracked open one eye tonight and gave me a big smile and a kiss*
October 14th *Both eyes are open!*
October 22nd     

Follow-up with plastic surgeon - *The incision is doing great as is the bone filling in but it looks like one of the grafts twisted and now one brow bone ends up higher than the other*

November 20th - 22nd Follow-up with plastic surgeon - *All bone but one baby fingerprint sized spot is filled in, and he says the contour is coming along nicely...she may not need that follow-up. Incision almost completely healed.*
November 26th Follow-up with Pediatrician - Our last visit! *Azia is doing wonderfully and is happy & healthy!
January 3rd - 1st Follow-up with Neurosurgeon - *Everything looks great but he agrees she may need a touch-up surgery*
February 2008 Swelling causes concern - see neurosurgeon on call - *inconclusive*
February 14th Follow-up with Neurosurgeon - *lump was fluid - everything is fine!*
February 26 - 3rd Follow-up with plastic surgeon - *She looks great, probably won't need further surgery!*
March 14 Follow-up with Pediatric Eye Dr. *Her eyes are still perfect!*
June 19

Follow-up with Cardiologist - *Her heart is perfect. No hole, no murmur...no more follow-ups necessary!!!*

August 6th- 4th

Plastic Surgeon Follow-up - *She looks great and he couldn't be happier. He says she healed herself where the bone graft twisted and he can't take credit for that. She really is our miracle baby!*
