Surgery Story - Hugo Myburgh

Hugo Myburgh will be turning 21 on the 18 September 2013.

Hugo was born with Craniosynostosis and diagnosed with Crouzon’s syndrome, to add to this story, his Mom and two older sisters were also diagnosed with the same syndrome. The result being ladies after successful operations.

Hugo had his first operation as an infant. Things went horribly wrong and he contracted septicemia. He was flown via helicopter to Sunninghill Hospital where I met Dr Martin Kelly for the first time. Hugo feels he owes his life to Dr Martin Kelly as “He saved my life! He is my conqueror and I will always show gratitude towards him.”

Now finally after so many years Hugo had to face Surgery again in 2009, and was afforded the opportunity to have the procedure done at Sunninghill Hospital.

Dr Martin Kelly - Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, Dr WJ Van der Linden - Maxillo-Facial & Oral Surgeon and the Craniofacial Team performed the operation on 19 October 2009 at the CRANIO FACIAL UNIT JOHANNESBURG,SUNNINGHILL HOSPITAL.

Hugo’s surgery was gratefully sponsored by Vodacom and was truly a dream come true.
