Surgery Story - Lily Bella Claassens

Our Cranio Journey

Our beautiful Lily Bella Claassens was born on 31st July 2012. We suspected immediately that there was something wrong as she had a line down the middle of her forehead. We questioned this with the Paed who delivered her but he assured us that it was just the plates in the head that had overlapped for the birth. We took Lily back to him twice in the following 3 months as we were unhappy with the explanation as we could barely feel a top fontanel.

Once again we were assured all was in order. In January 2013 we were blessed to have been given the details of Dr Kelly who is an absolute miracle worker. He diagnosed her immediately with Metopic Cranio and after her catscan, we set the operation date for 25 March, both my husband and my world came to a sudden halt, it was totally surreal and we kept double guessing our decision for Lily’s operation.

We knew it was the only way, but we were so emotional and frightened. The support and prayers we received from friends, family and complete strangers was absolutely phenomenal. It really carried us through the tough times. Lily bounced back to her old self and healed remarkably fast, and by the grace of God, she should have no further operations. She was such a brave girl and a true inspiration to us all. Lily is still going for her check-ups and is improving each day. What a success!!
